Please excuse my ignorance for now but have you ever heard of an AUSTRALIAN MANGO this big??

some Australian mangoes at Robinson's MagnoliaAustralian Mangoes at Robinson’s Magnolia Supermarket.

Living in SEA I know that the best mangoes still do come from the southern area of Philippines, although Thailand is one of the top exporter for quality mangoes but still an Australian Mangoes this size??

humongous Australian mango in green colorThese are freaking humongous! They’re larger than my hand!

I tried searching it on the net but I don’t see any ‘Australian Mangoes” this “size”. Checked Wikipedia about it but I ended up with none. Maybe my searching skill is lacking or Google doesn’t seem to understand my query concern… T_T

For sale! Australian mangoes for PHP170 per kilo!Geez! It’s PHP 170 a kilo and this one weighs about o.8++ something.

Anyway, the first time I saw this was about a week ago and what you are seeing now is a waaaaay smaller version of the last I saw. I grab one to show my mom this afternoon as we were doing some groceries for tomorrow’s dinner.

Her reaction was like:

Mom: “OMG! Yikes! That’s big!! That’s so scary. What’s that??”

Me: “Mom, these are Australian Mangoes…you know from Australia??”

Mom: “Ehh?? Australia has mangoes?? Is that what they called that now? It looks like an apple mangoes from the south. You know they’re tasteless” (what my mom meant here is that it’s not sweet like our mangoes) but they’re NOT that big.

Me: “Really? You want to buy one?”

Mom: “No. What are you going to do that size?”

Me: “Eat it of course (…because I really want to try that thing!)”

Mom: “Never mind. It’s PHP170 a kilo! It’s expensive. You eat other fruits.”

Me: “Ermm…okeeeey.”

Epic failed. Enough said! —————————-

Australian Mangoes versus local mangoes

See? See? The Australian Mango is bigger than our local mangoes!

My obsession to take picture as evidence that I saw this humongous mango started in there when I was comparing it with most of the fruits near by. Aside from the fact my boss kinda laughed when I said I saw a mango almost as big as a melon…

Australian Mango vs Pomelo

Side by side with a Pomelo. It’s still freaking humongous!!

The store personnel really didn’t mind me at all taking pictures left and right, I’m sure they’re shocked finding a mango like that is store. Hehehe! They are probably laughing at me taking pictures. Ahahaha! Who cares right?? I have yet to see one like this at SM Megamall supermarket.

Australian Mango vs local green papaya

Even our local green papaya might die in shame as it is waaaay smaller than the Australian Mango…

Can Australian Mango compete with Dole green papaya?…well Dole might not as it is almost the same size or sort!

You might want to give a hands down to Australian Mango for being “fat” or erm…rather having a fleshy, plump body as compared to Dole green papaya but still…it’s almost the same size!!

Australian Mango versus PineappleWell, at least you’re NOT BIGGER than the Pineapple!

If this Australian Mango was bigger than the Pineapple, I might end up with a jaw dropping effect with one eyebrow raising up towards heaven as this is really totally unbelievable. I’ve seen some “gigantic” fruits such as Fuji apples, Korean pears, some strawberries and watermelons but mangoes this size?? No, no, no, never!

Should you pass by at New Manila, you might want to check it out in the newly opened Robinson’s Magnolia supermarket. For PHP170/kilo, it’s considered expensive for a mango but for curiosity sake you might want to buy one if you are willing to shell out that much money..

Though, my goodness, I am still wondering how it taste like. I feel so jealous to those who have bought one because I really want one…but this would probably be best made for chutney instead of eating…sigh.

Let me know what you think.
